Well, since I started the bird news topic, why not a dog news topic too?

When the kindergartners at Sandyston-Walpack Elementary School first saw Tyler, they thought a polar bear had come to visit.

At 151 pounds, the silky-haired, creamy-white, Great Pyrenees therapy dog comes close. He is a “gentle giant,” said Principal Harold Abraham. Tyler, who Abraham said is bigger than any child in the building, began visiting the school during the COVID-19 pandemic in November 2020.

As a full-time graduate student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Jordan Rosenfeld knew he wanted to be an engineer in the medical field but he wasn’t sure exactly what he wanted to do.

Cleo, a lemon beagle terrier mix who’d lost one of her front legs after being hit by a car, helped him figure that out.

I am not sure why but this thread has made me emotional. Thanks for sharing it's good to see how dogs can help humans.

Awwww, those are wonderful stories  ! I'm glad to see that dog was rescued from the dog meat trade, and is now helping those kids :) .

And here's another heart-warming one. A hiker in Croatia had a fall, which injured him and left him unable to move. However, his pet dog saved his life by curling up on top of him for 13 hours:

Another one now. Apparently, a study has shown that dogs can tell the difference between two languages (at least, when they're familiar with one language but not the other):

https://news.sky.com/story/you-talkin-to...s-12510069

Doesn't mean that they can understand either language - but it is interesting that they can at least differentiate between them!

With as an intelligent as they are...

This article doesn't surprise me in the least bit.

This one is old, but I think it deserves to be in this post:
Dog ownership linked to lower mortality rate
A team of Swedish scientists have used national registries of more than 3.4 million Swedes aged 40 to 80 to study the association between dog ownership and cardiovascular health. Their study shows that dog owners had a lower risk of death due to cardiovascular disease or to other causes during the 12-year follow-up.

A total of more than 3.4 million individuals without any prior cardiovascular disease in 2001 were included in the researchers' study linking together seven different national data sources, including two dog ownership registers. The results are being published for the first time in Scientific Reports. The goal was to determine whether dog owners had a different risk of cardiovascular disease and death than non-dog owners.

And if that doesn't count, this one is more recent:
Dog finds body of DeKalb County man missing since 2020
MORGAN COUNTY, Ga. - The body of a DeKalb County man who had been missing for over a year has been found in Morgan County with the help of a dog.

Officials say on Dec. 7, a man called 911 reporting that his dog had found a human bone near his home on Newborn Road near Old Mill Road. Later that evening, the dog found another bone and took it to the man.

After testing the bones, deputies determined that the bones were human and worked to track the dog's movements using a special collar.

Yeah, makes sense that dog ownership would lead to lower mortality rates, due to the physical benefits of getting exercise (from walking the dog and other dog-related activities), as well as the mental health benefit that comes from the dog's companionship.

And well done to that dog on finding the human remains - even if it was a while ago now :) !
