that would fix that real quick, a pair of nippers to cut it lose then glue it where it's supposed to go.

Well, I do have superglue - but, sadly, I didn't notice the fracture until it was too late: it wasn't visible without disassembling the fan, and I didn't dare disassemble it without having the replacement, in case I couldn't reassemble it. (And now that I do have the replacement fan, and it's working well... I'd rather have that than a superglued-together old fan that may or may not break again  )

Thanks for the suggestion, though :) !

I am not sure if superglue would have been a good idea since sometimes components in laptops and other compturs can get very hot and this could have softened the glue (over time) and may caused other issues. I personally wouldn't have done this. But hey glad you didn't need to do this and glad it's working again.

Well superglue was the easy option...

most of these fan shrouds are made of ABS and there is one other trick... might be useful if you need to fix like a case or something for a crack...

ABS plastic can be welded back together using acetone, it sort of makes the plastic molten again where it's applied allowing it to fuse back together once it dries.

it does warp it a little though so a magic eraser or a soft abrasive like that smooths it out while fixing the crack.

I've used it to fix plastic computer case panels and the like and it works great, but you need to be careful because it's acetone.

it also leaves a slight discoloration where the crack was but the plastic weld is solid.
