Well, I came up with another theory for Season 2. I expect it to be completely wrong - but I might as well throw it out there, just in case it's right :

Player #066 will become a main character. If you don't know who "Player #066" is, then that's understandable: he only appeared at the beginning of episode 2, when they voted to end the games . But he was one of the 14 players who didn't come back when the games were resumed. Furthermore, unlike the truly-unimportant players (who were played by unknown extras), he was played by a named actor (Won Choon-gyu), who was credited for his appearance in that episode. It seems that the producers regard him as at least a semi-important character.

And now, here's where my theory gets really speculative . #066 is only one away from #067, i.e. Kang Sae-byeok's number. Could this be a sign that he knew Sae-byeok prior to the games taking place? Not necessarily (after all, plenty of unrelated players have consecutive numbers ) - but if it is, then that could be a way to get Sae-byeok into season 2 (by using flashbacks with her to build up Player #066's back-story).

Netflix just announced that season 2 is coming:

They haven't said when it's coming (and it was previously confirmed by the director back in November 2021 ), but it's nice to see they haven't forgotten all about it!

And on the back of that announcement, Netflix have announced a game show adaptation, with 456 contestants, and a $4.56m prize:

There will be 10 episodes (which suggests there might be more than six games) - and of course, the losers won't die, so don't let the prospect of being shot put you off applying .

Some slightly bad news now... Lee Jung-jae (who played protagonist Seong Gi-hun) has revealed that the team doesn't have a full storyline mapped out:

If true, then that's pretty disappointing: I'd love to see a second series, but only if they have a clear idea of what they're doing, and they take their time to make it good. I don't want them to cobble something together and then rush it to meet a deadline - because then it's just going to suck .

Sounds like the game show adaptation isn't going very well. Three people have apparently received medical treatment following filming:

Not good... apparently it was very cold on set, which can't have helped, but I do hope they haven't been neglecting their contestants!

Another worry about season 2... is it even possible to make the premise work the second time around?

Now that people know what to expect from this show, it's not going to be as shocking if they do the same thing again. And on top of that, I expect people are going to think: "I'd best not get too emotionally invested in these characters... we've seen what can happen to them !"

(Admittedly the same could be said about the Hunger Games movies... though I suppose the later ones still had a decent number of characters from the first movie, whom we were already emotionally invested in. Furthermore, they did move away from the games themselves after the second movie, and it may be that Squid Game has to take a similar path if it's to achieve long-term success!)

Not really a surprise, since the returning cast are basically just the only important characters who survived . But it's encouraging to see the cop is coming back... his fate was left unresolved at the end of season 1, but it seems his story isn't over yet!

The rumour is that they've filmed a long story, which is going to be split across two seasons. If so, I'm excited to see what they've thought of!
