We all knew it was coming, but now it's official: Squid Game has become Netflix's biggest ever series launch.

The Korean drama was watched by 111 million users in its first 28 days, knocking Bridgerton (82 million) off the top spot.

Netflix counts a view as anyone who's watched two minutes of an episode.

Netflix's vice president for content in Korea, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand says the show's success is "beyond our wildest dreams".

Minyoung Kim told CNN: "When we first started investing in Korean series and films in 2015, we knew we wanted to make world-class stories for the core K-content fans across Asia and the world.

Hardly surprising, given just how frequently I've heard about the series on the news, on social media, and so on  .

I myself haven't seen it (since I don't have Netflix) - but, who here has?

So far, yes - although, given the amount of attention it's received, I expect that number will continue to grow for some time :P .

My father heard about it and mentioned it a few times, and I've heard some more about it since, so I suppose it is a possibility we will end up watching it. Doesn't excite me particularly from the little I have read about it, but we will see.

Yeah, I can't say it has a whole lot of appeal to me either :P .

Although, I did see an amusing story in the news, where the police reassured motorists that the following signs do not lead to Squid Game (and instead, they're just diversion route markers  ):

I've watched two episodes and enjoyed the memes on TikTok. I think TikTok is pretty good for reaching people and stuff. It's also nice to see ideas that weren't approved straight away and non-Western culture become so popular.

The plot is basically about this guy who is in great debt in South Korea and some others who are selected to play these typical children's games and endanger their lives to win a huge sum of money. It's full of twists.

Well, apparently, a real-life version of Squid Game is coming to the UK:

https://www.ladbible.com/news/uk-a-real-...k-20211021

Players will compete for a cash prize of £500 or more - but, unlike on the show, you won't get executed if you lose  .
