Live in a pretend Mars base for a year?

I'd sooner this than live in an underwater base for a year. :P 

More seriously, it's good that preparations are being made for an eventual Mars base. Shows that we are moving forward. But, I can't help but feeling like those who take part in this but never get to experience Mars itself will be hard done by.
