Sometimes, I'll read about an athlete on the news (or on Wikipedia), and I'll notice that it describes them as a "former [insert sport here] player". And then, I'll think: "I didn't realise they had retired !" If this has happened to you, then this is the place to post about it .
I just had this with Wayne Rooney. After his last international match in 2018, I pretty much forgot about him - although, since he was still relatively young, I thought he'd still be playing professional football at some level. But, no: I've just discovered that he retired this January, in order to become full-time manager of Derby County. That rather surprised me: I don't know how I'd managed to miss that news!
