American writer and Marvel Comics co-creator Stan Lee has died at the age of 95.

Lee and Jack Kirby founded the company in 1961, beginning with The Fantastic Four and going on to create titles such as Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk.

Lee's wife, Joan, died in 2017 - also aged 95 - but he is survived by his daughter, JC Lee.

Speaking to website TMZ, JC said her father was "the greatest, most decent man".

The legendary comic book author died at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday after a medical emergency, according to Variety magazine.

R.I.P. Stan Lee :( . The characters he created have assured him a place as one of the titans of the comic book industry - and they're sure to keep masses of people entertained for decades to come.

My condolences to his friends and family.

Let me try this over again.  I feel like I didn't do this LEGEND the justice he deserves.

I'm not looking at this as a sad day. I'm choosing to celebrate "The Man". The Man who made The Hulk Incredible. The Man who made Spider-Man Amazing. The Man who made The X-Men Uncanny. The Man who created Four individuals, teamed them up and made them Fantastic. Then there's those Avengers, a Black Panther, The Ant-Man, The Wasp, a guy wisecracking hero named Deadpool and a few others. The Man who acknowledged his fans as "True Believers" as he took us on one thrill ride after another. This was Stan Lee's doing. Oh, let us not forget, he took what Alfred Hitchcock did to another level by making cameo appearances in movies involving the characters he helped to create and immerse us all in. He was the Marvel Universe. We are just honored to be apart of it.

Thank you Stan Lee and Rest in Peace!

I think this was the best way anybody could put it. RIP Stan Lee.

The father of all the characters he created has grown up now. They are all rememberable and legendary. His legacy will continue on for years to come.

Rest in Peace Stan Lee...
We will miss your wonderful smiling face and your amazing cameos... ;-;
Wait really, I exist? Weird, I thought I wasn't human.

Is it wrong for me to say that I don't know who that man is? :huh: But anyway, rest in peace. At least he lived to a good age though.

Not for a while, though. I believe they've actually filmed a whole bunch of them pre-emptively (and, when those run out, who knows what CGI technology will be like? It might be possible to create an entirely realistic human being then!)

He's the guy who co-invented Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, and all the other characters listed in The Last Outlaw's post. He's also appeared in every Marvel movie to date (with cameos in a lot of the recent MCU movies, as JHG alluded to in his post)

Ah thanks for that. I had seen a bit about him when the news first broke out but never really knew of the man, as I never followed nor have I worshipped the comic book heroes (well, Batman was an exception when I was a kid but, that was purely ephemeral).

'When you see this among the recent posts and youre all like: I thought he died ages ago. Then you wonder if you're imagining living people to be dead and somewhere in there you're a truly terrible person.'
