When I was a kid, I was a VEEERY picky eater. Then the absolute disaster of living-alone, adulthood economics made start appreciating anything that looked even remotely edible (although a lot of the times I suspected that I ended up eating things not meant to be eaten XD) and now that I have finally settled into a groove, I'm starting to take an honest interest in how meals are presented.
I would absolutely NOT turn down your meal if the rice and the chicken are currently hugging each other, for instance, but separating them cleanly would really accentuate how much of an effort you made, and that would, in turn, make appreciate the whole meal a lot more. Same with how "sides" like naans and vegetables are placed. Stuff that feeds the eye before it feeds the stomach.
Am I making sense here? Have I ever? You are all probably used to it by now
