Indeed, that's certainly true: we don't need to be 'experts' at the vast majority of things we do in our everyday lives . Merely being competent is sufficient - and, competency takes waaaaay less time to acquire than expertise.
With that being said, I think a lot of us aspire to be experts at something - and so, it's well worth knowing what we need to do in order to achieve that .
