SpaceX Nasa Mission to ISS - Kyng - 04-18-2020

Nasa has announced that next month it will launch its first manned mission from US soil in almost 10 years.

The rocket and the spacecraft it is carrying are due to take off from Florida’s Kennedy Space Centre on 27 May, taking two astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).

Both the rocket and spacecraft were developed by private company SpaceX.

Nasa has been using Russian rockets for manned flights since its space shuttle was retired in 2011.

If successful, SpaceX – headed by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk - will become the first private firm to send Nasa astronauts into space.

I'm a bit surprised that COVID-19 hasn't cancelled this. Then again, I suppose there's no chance of catching the virus in space (and the astronauts will doubtless have been tested) - and most of the Mission Control people can presumably work remotely.

Anyway, good luck to them :) !

The launch was delayed for a couple of days, due to bad weather. However, it launched successfully yesterday, taking astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken into orbit:

They're due to dock with the International Space Station next. Good luck to them :) !

This is a happy surprise and I am praying they make it back safely.

Well, so far, all seems to be going well. They've docked and boarded the International Space Station:

(Also, I've changed the topic title, since the original one is a bit out of date :P )

this will have grand net positives once they return with the same capsule, we have now made it more cost effective to send people into space. now we need to refine the tech, another small step for humanity.
