Peter Rabbit 2 - Kyng - 10-17-2019

The reviews for the first Peter Rabbit may have been mixed, but $350 million worldwide buys a lot of carrots and sees the green light flash for a sequel. Hence the impending arrival (well, next year) of Peter Rabbit 2. The first trailer for the film is online and can be viewed below.

As the story continues, Bea (Rose Byrne), Thomas (Domhnall Gleeson) and the rabbits have formed a makeshift family, with the humans tying the knot. Yet Peter (James Corden) just can't seem to shake his mischievous reputation. Feeling like he doesn't fit in, he heads out on an adventure and finds a group that appreciate his behaviour. But when his family risks everything to find him, Peter must figure out what kind of bunny he wants to be.

There are moments here that suggest the the sequel could be venturing down darker paths a la Babe: Pig In The City, but it's mostly focused on fluffy family fun.

I was really into Peter Rabbit as a small child - although, I still haven't seen the first movie :P . I'll probably end up seeing it one Christmas, when it inevitably ends up on TV :P .

So, will it improve on the mixed reception that the original received?

Yeah, it does look like it might be pretty amusing :P . Then again, it does look very different from the Peter Rabbit stories I grew up with: he was just causing mischief around Mr McGregor's garden, whereas here, he's living with and befriending humans. It seems like one of those adaptations where the only thing it has in common with the source material is the name!

(Then again, it does sounds as though this would make a more entertaining movie than the source material, so I'm open to giving it a chance :P )
