First death from health effects of vaping in the USA - Kyng - 08-24-2019

A patient has died after developing a severe respiratory disease due to vaping in the first such death in the US, say health officials.

It comes as experts investigate a mystery lung disease across the US that is linked to use of e-cigarettes.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said there were 193 "potential cases" in 22 US states.

Many of the cases involve vaping THC, the main active compound in cannabis, CDC experts said.

The cases were reported over the course of two months between 28 June and 20 August.

R.I.P. :( . It's sad, but I guess it was inevitable that it would happen to somebody, and it should come as a warning to anyone who thinks vaping is completely safe and healthy.

Still, they're probably way safer than traditional cigarettes (I mean, it'd be hard not to be), so we don't want to be pushing people back towards those...

It is not the first, as stated by the last line of the BBC.

Quote:At least two people have previously died in the US after their e-cigarette exploded in their face.

Well, I'm guessing what they mean is that this is the first death linked to the long-term health effects of vaping (as opposed to a technical defect with the e-cig itself).

I've edited the topic title to make that clearer, though :) .

I don't like e-cigarettes but I do feel they have a place if they're used to help people stop smoking.
People vaping for fun though isn't something I can gel with.

That being said while I'm not surprised it has health effects, I do hope that the negative effects aren't too frequent so people won't shy away from them as an option to stop smoking.

Seems there have been at least three more deaths linked to vaping:

It's not as though vaping is brand new - so, why are we getting so many in such a short space of time :-/ ?

OK, so it sounds like it's not a risk that is inherent to vaping, and it's only linked to certain chemicals in certain e-cigs - so, it should be entirely possible to stop using those.

Still, it seems like vaping as a whole is taking a major reputation hit from this, and I expect many people will be scared off from it altogether.

I'm sorry but I just think that people should stop smoking nicotine in general.  My remaining grandfather is almost dead because he smoked cigs for over 40 years straight.  That is why I'm so biased against the things.

NBC News commissioned laboratory tests of knock-off marijuana vapes that found a pesticide linked to hydrogen cyanide in 10 out 10 products.

It seems Joffery partook in a vape of the Devil's lettuces before his wedding.
