RE: Three Keys to Freedom -

Sean's eyebrows perked up at the mention of automatons. He hadn't heard of any such devices before; however, he was aware that the Mayardians possessed a technological prowess centuries beyond their immediate neighbours, so he couldn't possibly rule this theory out.
"Mind if I take a closer look at that?" Sean asked curiously, peering at the mysterious golden cog in Albany's hand. Of course, Albany was more than happy to oblige - so, once she'd handed it over, Sean held it up to the light to see what he could figure out.
The first thing Sean spotted was a ring of minuscule ornate triangles, milled around the inner edge of the cog. This wasn't particularly surprising: he knew the Mayardians were fascinated by geometric figures of all kinds. However, as he turned his eyes to the centre, he found a pattern which looked oddly familiar, but much less Mayardian in origin. It consisted of two inter-connected arrows, pointing in opposite directions.
"It's a British Rail logo

!" Sean gasped. "I wonder whether they're trying to tell us we're late? Funny sense of humour, they have

...."
A few minutes later, things took an even
more curious turn, when Sean examined the base of the Treacle Topaz. Suddenly, he noticed something he had completely overlooked previously:
the inner edge of the base was serrated with cog teeth! Furthermore, it was exactly the right size for this cog to fit into...
"I think it's pretty obvious what we should do here...anybody want to put the cog in?"

"Just do it already..." Greg grumbled snatching the cog and pushing it into the Treacle Topaz roughly.

As soon as Greg jammed the cog into the Treacle Topaz, it gave off a faint, golden glow and a quiet ringing noise for a few seconds. But then, without warning, he slipped forwards and fell on his face.
"Greg....are you okay?" Sean asked out of concern, as he helped his friend off the floor. "What happened? I thought the Treacle Topaz was supposed to give you
sticky feet, not
slippy feet

..."

"I'm fine..."Greg grunted pushing Sean away. However as soon as he stood back up he fell down again, on his face yet again.

As Sean helped Greg up off the floor once again, he pondered what was going on some more. "
For that split second before Greg fell, he zipped forwards *very* quickly..." he observed. "
The Treacle Topaz is supposed to slow your movement down, not speed it up..."
Then, suddenly, something clicked in Sean's mind.
"I think I know what this gear does," he announced to his friends. "It
reverses the powers of the gem it's connected to. So, instead of giving Greg sticky feet and slowing him down, it's giving him
slippy feet and speeding him up..."

"So wait" Albany interrupted "Wouldn't that mean the Polar Peridot makes you HUGE!?"
She stretched out both her arms as wide as possible to emphasise this.

"Yes," Sean answered affirmatively, stretching his arms out as far as he could. "
Huge".
He began to think about this a little more - and then, he gasped as he had another brainwave.
"You know that monster, that still has the Horn of Hermes tied around it?" he recalled. "One of us could use the reversed Polar Peridot to get it off him

!"

"Yeah, fine whatever. Either way you can play with this dumb thing." Greg said shoving the Treacle Topaz into Sean's hands. "I'm sick of falling on my face."
RE: Three Keys to Freedom -
Pyrite - 02-26-2019
"I don't fancy being huge." Albany pointed to her leg - if its pain was minimised by being small, perhaps she'd be in even more pain if she was much larger?
She pointed at Greg. "You should be HUGE. It would suit you."

Greg frowned at Albany. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He demanded.
