Bolton Wanderers are set to go into administration after the club appeared in the High Court over a £1.2m unpaid tax bill.

The case on Wednesday was adjourned until 22 May to allow the club enough time to appoint an administrator.

Administration would result in Wanderers having a 12-point penalty imposed on them next season.

The club will play in League One next season after they were relegated from the Championship this term.

Former Watford owner Laurence Bassini had made a takeover bid, but Wanderers said on Thursday that the deal was off.

Sad to see. Considering they were a force in the Premier League as recently as the mid-2000s, it's a real pity how far they've fallen :( .

I do hope a rescue deal can be struck soon.

Well, it seems that a takeover deal has collapsed, and the club is now on the brink of liquidation :'( :

It's certainly not looking good...

As bad as Bolton's situation is right now, it seems that another League One club from Greater Manchester has it even worse. Bury have been expelled from the English Football League, after they went into administration and a takeover bid collapsed:

Could be the end of the club's 134-year history. Very sad to see... obviously a very distressing time for their fans :'( .

Well, after the bleak news regarding Bury yesterday, I'm glad to report better fortunes for Bolton. It seems a takeover deal has been completed :D :

Let's hope this leads to a revival in the club's fortunes on the pitch!
