The real issue with the main series is the recycling of plots and not trying something extremely new (or as I like to say, getting with the times). I hear people say Gen 7 did that and I saw it only to a certain degree. Team Skull is fresh and the Trials are interesting, but if you look deeper, the Trial Captains are Gym Leaders with the name slapped into them. I'll give credit that Gen 7 actually made an effort this time around but there has to be more major changes to prevent things from getting too stale.
