Well, that makes things easier for United Kingdom Harriet Dart [WC]! She would've played Muguruza in the second round - but, instead, she'll be against Brazil Beatriz Haddad Maia [Q]. Dart is still the lower-ranked of the two players, though (#182 vs. #121), so it isn't that much of a let-off :P .

Also, I see Andy Murray will be partnering Serena Williams in the mixed doubles:

Great. Now I'll be conflicted -_- .
[22] Donna Vekic is out now as well, losing in three to Alison Riske.

Sucks about Murray teaming up with Reenie. Closest equivalent I could think of is Gabriela Dabrowski (aka Canada's current doubles expert) teaming up with Nick Kyrgios.
Some long matches men's side today. It's looking like Djokovic isn't going to be one of them though - he's up two sets and 5-2 in the third. :P He'd REALLY have to choke to lose. EDIT: And he won. ;)

[30] Edmund and [22] Wawrinka went down in five-setters, while [26] Pella won in 5. Andreas Seppi appears to have run out of gas, as he lost the fifth set 6-1! :P [15] Raonic and [19] Auger-Aliassime are both through as well.

Only one seed out on the women's side today - [27] Sofia Kenin lost in three sets against Dayana Yastremska.
Pity Edmund went out from two sets up. I guess he just used everything he had on the first two, and had nothing left from the last three :( .

On another note, I heard that Cyprus Marcos Baghdatis [WC] will be retiring after this tournament. Given that he's 34 years old, and he's fallen out of the top 100, it's probably the right decision on his part - but, even so, it'll be sad to see him go :( .
Seems a few women's seeds have fallen this round:

[5] Kerber
[25] Anisimova
[12] Sevastova
[17] Keys

But Viktoria Azarenka is still in! ;) So too is the fifteen-year-old! :O

A few other men's seeds are out as well:

[31] Djere
[13] Cilic
[18] Basilashvili (I think he just ran outta gas)
[9] Isner
[25] de Minaur

Also, Marcos Baghdatis is out (lost to [17] Berrettini in straight sets), meaning that his career is at an end now.

EDIT: add [20] Gilles Simon to the list. The aptly-named American, Tennys Sandgren, beat him in a five-set epic, winning the last set 8-6.
Wow, I'm amazed the 15-year-old is doing so well :O ! I'll be very interested to see how she gets on in the future: I hope she doesn't peak too early...

Also worth noting that Serena Williams survived a scare: she lost the first set to Kaja Juvan, but came back to win 2-6 6-2 6-4.

And, overall, not a bad day for the Brits! Dan Evans beat Gabashvili, and Dart and Konta are both through. Clarke and Norrie are out - although, since they were playing Nishikori and Federer respectively, I guess that's not a major surprise.
Well, Nick Kyrgios has admitted that he deliberately tried to hit Rafael Nadal in the chest:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2019/...dal-going/

Disgraceful and unsportsmanlike Angry . IMO, he deserves to have his prize money and ranking points from this tournaments taken away. He really needs to be taught a lesson or two.

Though, on a brighter note, Cori Gauff is through to the last 16 :O . She went down a set and a break against Polona Hercog, but then came back to win 3-6 7-69-6 7-5.
Nick Kyrgios is a grade-A tosser. To say that someone makes McEnroe look like a saint speaks volumes, and Kyrgios sure does.

[19] Auger-Aliassime is out :( But considering he had never played a full pro tournament on grass before this year, he didn't do half-bad! :P But he lost in straight sets to Ugo Humbert, who now plays Novak Djokovic.

But there were a few higher seeds that got upset by lower seeds as well:

[26] Pella def. [4] Anderson (he plays [15] Raonic next)
[21] Goffin def. [11] Medvedev
[23] Batista Agut def. [10] Khachanov

Also, Jan Vesely, the guy who beat [6] Zverev in the first round, is out, having lost to [28] Paire in four sets.

As for the women, only a couple seeds went out today, but one was [14] Wozniacki, which I thought was surprising! [20] Anett Kontaveit was the other one.
A few more results to report:

Croatia Nikola Mektić / Croatia Franko Škugor [6] def. France Pierre-Hugues Herbert / United Kingdom Andy Murray [PR] 6-74-7 6-4 6-2 6-3
Shame to see Murray going out relatively early, after the promise he showed with Feliciano López at Queen's :( . Still, good luck to him on continuing his recovery - whatever form that may take.

Australia Ashleigh Barty [1] def. United Kingdom Harriet Dart [WC] 6-1 6-1
A bit of a shame to see Dart getting hammered like this, but apparently, she didn't play badly: it's just that Barty played really well! Still, Dart can be proud of herself, for making the third round of Wimbledon despite being well out of the top 100 :) .

United Kingdom Johanna Konta [19] def. United States Sloane Stephens [9] 3-6 6-4 6-1
This was surprising. Konta lost the first set, and Stephens appeared to be in charge in the second set - but then, Konta completely turned it around :O . She plays Kvitová next - which is going to be a tough match against such an accomplished grass-court player, but I'm not taking anything for granted...
Today is 'Manic Monday': the day on which all of the 'Round of 16' matches have taken place. All of the men's matches are either still in progress or went largely as expected; however, there have been some notable results from the women's side:

  • United Kingdom Johanna Konta [19] def. Czechrepublic Petra Kvitová [6] 4-6 6-2 6-4
(Wow, I was not expecting this :O ! Congrats to Konta, though: it's great to see her back in the later stages of Slams on a regular basis :) )

  • Romania Simona Halep [7] def. United States Cori Gauff [Q] 6-3 6-3
(So, the 15-year-old's dream run is over :( . However, she's shown immense promise for the future, and I hope she lives up to it :) !)

  • Czechrepublic Karolína Muchová def. Czechrepublic Karolína Plíšková [3] 4-6 7-5 13-11
(We almost got our first final-set 12-12 tie-break here, but it looks like it'll have to wait a little longer!)
