"Well, a leg brace isn't forever," Meriandra pointed out. "It's a stepping stone towards walking normally. But you're never going to walk normally unless you're willing to practise, and be patient. This problem won't magically solve itself: you need to try and find the solution, not just wait for one to appear..."
"But...." Kyle began frowning. "The surgery was SUPPOSED to fix it. It didn't..."
"No, the surgery on its own wasn't supposed to fix it!" Meriandra scowled. "The surgery, plus the week of practice, was supposed to fix it. But you haven't been doing the practice, so of course you still can't walk - and you only have yourself to blame for that."
"I did try." Kyle said pouting. "If I can't stand on my own how can I even practice?"
"Yes, but you weren't patient enough," Meriandra argued back. "Lydia told me all about it... you gave up after just a day. But it takes longer than a day of practice... it varies, but it usually takes about a week. I know it's tough, but it's the only way you'll ever walk again..."
"Yeah, and what if I'm patient and I still don't walk? Might as well not even bother then." Kyle responded.
"If you're patient and still don't walk, then that means there's probably still something wrong with your legs. And then, I'd be able to look at them again and try to help. But they only way you'll find out is if you're patient and you try... if there's nothing wrong with your legs, and the only reason why you can't walk is because you're not bothering to try, then that's not my problem to fix. It's your own fault, and there's nothing I can do about it."
Kyle again was quiet for a bit. "...How patient are we talking?" he asked finally.
"A week," Meriandra huffed. "I've told you that repeatedly. If you still can't walk after a week of consistent, serious effort - and not a week of laziness or refusing to try - then I'll be willing to help."
Kyle let out a sigh. "Fine, I guess..." he said reluctantly.
