I felt the same about multiplayer if I ever were to try it as I guess a lot of people would prefer to fight with force. I find the religion stuff tedious at times but I see how it’s useful.

Yeah, I can understand that. The Religious Victory in Civilization VI feels like a more 'peaceful' version of the Domination Victory... it's what I often end up doing, but I will admit it gets tedious :P .

There's no Religious Victory in Civ 5, so there's less reason to spam Missionaries everywhere - but I guess that means you have to find some other way of winning the game  .

That’s interesting. I’ve only ever played 6 and currently have like 30 hours on it so I’m still pretty new to the Civ world. It definitely is tedious but I guess one way is to take over cities violently alongside with the religion spread. Wracks up points and stops other people from getting that win.

Yep, that sometimes helps too  . Although, I generally don't do it, since there's too much risk of my Missionaries and Apostles being killed by military units :( !

(Then again, I guess you don't have to be doing both against the same civ at the same time... you can always send your religious units to one civ, and your military units to another  )

That’s what I’ve been doing. Currently playing as Arabia and I’m about to win based on culture. Had science as my back up though! I either start a war with someone, send both over together or randomly go to ones where I share borders with. I’m only playing on the third easiest difficulty so it works pretty well for now.

And yes, knowing what to prioritise early on is difficult, with so many competing priorities  . Usually, I try my best to get a religion and a Food wonder (either Temple of Artemis or Hanging Gardens... here, I got both, but I'm not usually that lucky!!!). I don't get too many units, but that's because I only play on Single Player: I'd get eaten alive if I played like that on multi-player!!!!

I would never do well on multiplayer with a game like civ.  I don't play the best way essentially ever lol.  Although I am okay with that as I find vs on those types of games to just be terrible.  Co-op is fun vs AI, but humans are awful to play against lol.

I'd like to give playing with others a try but I don't think I'd enjoy it either. I'm still relatively new to the series and I'm still working out how to pace and balance everything. Co-op seems fun though.

Yeah, I'm a bit the same way, especially with Civ  . I like to role-play a bit and do things "my way", which simply wouldn't work on the highest difficulties.

(There are other games where I do try to play the best way - such as FTL: Faster than Light - but those tend to be more 'pure' strategy games, with fewer role playing elements to begin with!)
Well, I continued my Civ 5 game as Morocco... I couldn't take any cities from Rome (because I didn't quite have the tech for it), but once I had trebuchets, I did capture the city-state of Lhasa (mainly because they had El Dorado, which I wanted  ). And then, a short while afterwards, I settled two new cities in a desert area near the Zulus - which had a river with lots of wheat on it, so despite the 'desert' nature of the area, it was quite fertile.

But then, the Zulus declared war, and completely overwhelmed me -_- . They've already captured one of my cities, and the other will fall soon :( . And further up, Rome is attacking me too:

The thing is, Rome has fallen behind me in tech - and now, they're getting absolutely trashed  . My plan is simple: wait until the Roman army has destroyed itself on my cities; then march over and capture a city or two from them; then march my army over to take on the Zulus, and take my cities back :) .

Let's hope it works out!
I've been trying to win on Science but I think I focus too much early on in investing in the campus. I tried the fifth difficulty but I'm finding it a bit hard so gonna stick to Prince for now. I've noticed it's important to have two or three cities early on. I think what I will do now is invest a bit in faith and coins so that my cities can grow early on otherwise building troops makes production slow. Working my way through Steam achievements for now too.

Yeah, Science is one of my favourite victory types in Civ 5, but I've struggled with it in Civ 6. I think it's important to have Campuses in good locations (and then get policy cards that increase your Campus adjacency bonuses :P ).

Meanwhile, over on Civ 5, I won my war against Rome quite easily - taking two cities, including their capital. However, the Zulus captured my allied city-state of Geneva... and then showed up on my border to attack Casablanca:

Fortunately, Casablanca was a fortress: it was well-defended on a hill, with a Kasbah located next to it, and a river as an additional natural defensive barrier. And when I brought my own army down, I was able trash theirs:

Not quite able to recapture my cities yet, but at least I'm able to hold my position :) !
Yeah, I tend to put the campuses next to the mountains. Had a swell time once when I had the Coral Barrier Reef but I stupidly put my city centre right next to it. I'd be tempted to buy Civ 5 if it was on sale as it seems to have some preferably aspects to it. It seems that Civ 6 goes on sale more often though, which is how I managed to snag it for -90% as well as two of the DLC for no more than £15.
