Hackers appear to have compromised and published private messages from at least 81,000 Facebook users' accounts.

The perpetrators told the BBC Russian Service that they had details from a total of 120 million accounts, which they were attempting to sell, although there are reasons to be sceptical about that figure.

Facebook said its security had not been compromised.

And the data had probably been obtained through malicious browser extensions.

Facebook added it had taken steps to prevent further accounts being affected.

Well, on this occasion, it doesn't sound like they've come directly from Facebook - but, even so, it'll do absolutely nothing to re-assure people who were already very concerned about their privacy -_- .

And it makes me wonder why these people even have those installed in the first place <_<
Yeah, chances are these browser extensions are posing as something that users would actually want. For example, it could be posing as a browser extension that customises Facebook's appearance. Or it could even be posing as something completely unrelated to Facebook, that just asks users for their Facebook information when they first install it (and then just serves out its stated non-Facebook purpose from then on).
Another nail in Facebook's coffin, hopefully.
