It was a moment that won’t happen again for 16 years – and Mother Nature obscured it in some places.

“It was supposed to be sunny in Corpus Christi today and now is clouds everywhere. Trying to see where we have to drive to,” one frustrated eclipse viewer in Texas posted on the Total Solar Eclipse 2024 Facebook page. (The title references next April’s total eclipse, which will be visible in some areas of the US.)

In the small towns and cities along the eclipse’s narrow path, there was a mix of excitement, worries about the weather, and concerns they’d be overwhelmed by visitors flocking to see the celestial event, also called an annular solar eclipse. Clouds and fog threatened to obscure the view of the eclipse in some western states, including California and Oregon.

Nice :O . I'm not sure if I prefer these over the the standard type of solar eclipse, but it's certainly something different! (If you're interested, it happens when the Moon passes in front of the Sun, but is too far away to cover it completely)

Though, if you missed this one, there will be an opportunity to see an eclipse in 2024 (it'll follow this path, so keep that in mind if you live anywhere near it!)
I got to see it and so did my dad!!

Looking forward to the one in April!

Glad you did :D !

My only first-hand experience of soler eclipses was in 1999, when I got to see a partial one through a pinhole camera :) .
I have never been fortunate to see a Ring of Fire. The one in 2024 will totally miss Michigan where I live. Oh well. Other members will be able to post so we can live by proxy :)

Indeed :( . Although, it doesn't miss Michigan by much - so, depending on whereabouts you live in the state, it might be viable to travel (depending on how much you want to see it, of course!)

Unfortunately we don't have the time to travel like that. We're getting too old(er) lol for that.
